It’s no secret that many businesses are using social media in an effort to market their brand and products to potential new customers as well as to reach out and stay in contact with current customers. After all, with so many people using social media, businesses have to go where their customers are. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram… Businesses can be found on these and other popular social sites, connecting with customers in one way or another. One other popular social site for businesses to use is LinkedIn. It may seem an odd choice for marketing, but it’s a great place for businesses to not only find customers but to also network with others in the same industry and gain exposure. So, what are some of the secrets to maximise your exposure on LinkedIn so you reach as many customers and industry influencers as you can?

1. Channels

LinkedIn has different channels that can be used to explore different categories and find articles on various topics that a user might be interested in. Many of the channels have large numbers of followers (some in the millions). If you publish on LinkedIn (aside from your own promotional efforts), you want to get featured on a channel to boost your exposure. Featured articles appear on the channel’s slider and in the stream for the channel’s followers. Also be sure to publish content with topics that will be attractive to readers.

2. Headlines

Anyone publishing content on social media knows the importance of a headline and images for grabbing attention. Optimise the headlines and featured images of your posts to your advantage to gain exposure. Make sure to use a featured image that is captivating and reflects your enticing title/headline to draw in readers.

3. Company Page

Don’t forget, aside from creating content specifically for publishing on LinkedIn channels, you can also use your company’s page. This is the page where you can catch the eye of prospects and build up relationships with customers. So share valuable content on it and from it, engage in conversation with followers, answer questions and solve problems. This will allow you to build brand awareness and create genuine relationships.

4. SlideShare

Use LinkedIn’s SlideShare to reach millions of viewers. Share things like company videos, influencer videos, webinar recordings, infographics, product how-tos and tips, and short, informative content pieces that are well-designed.

5. Sponsored Updates

Use sponsored updates to publish relevant content to reach a targeted audience beyond your page’s followers. Direct sponsored content will let you publish directly to the feed, bypassing having to share from your page. You can also make the content more relevant by sending personalised messages to a specific audience.

6. Other Ideas

Other ways you can go about gaining exposure is to send direct messages with special offers. You can also republish existing content from other places, like your blog. Increase your connections so more people will get notifications when you publish. Comment on popular posts to get seen, but be sure to actually contribute something worthwhile instead of just a “great post” comment. Engage with your connections’ posts and milestones. Be sure your LinkedIn profile is SEO-friendly and keyword-friendly. Add endorsements and recommendations to build credibility about you and you work.
